KIOKUYA - Not a Review Review

I don’t have a lot of good things to say about “Kiokuya” but I have things to say!

First of all, it was too short and underdeveloped which is probably why I felt that the main plot wasn’t interesting and I preferred the side characters’ stories more. In fact, I continued translating it because of that and not the main plot. The side characters here are more interesting and amusing than the MC. Also, his childhood friend is annoying.

The first chapter kicks it off in a very promising way. I had my expectations high, especially, about the issue of memories and what they represent to people. Maybe, that’s why I felt disappointed when that wasn’t philosophically developed enough but that’s on me. This isn’t that kind of series.

I liked the side character stories. albeit short, they were great. I loved the dynamic of their relationships (lawyer and his handyman / Misao and Kaname). I sympathised more with those characters than with the main ones. Despite having short appearance time compared to the MC, they were more developed. So I have to hand it to the writer.

I want to talk about the ending. I have mixed feelings about it. on the one hand, I liked how it was emotionally charged and how Ryou and Maki put everything on the table. it was high time for them to have that conversation. However, I didn't like how Maki "ended" things. Everything that has happened turned to nothing with that ending! With that, she became one of my most hated female characters of all time!!!

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it despite my horrible translation.

KIOKUYA | The Final Chapter

Kiokuya by Kyoya Origami and Nachiyo Murayama

Final Chapter: The Kiokuya

and there it is, the kiokuya!

I already have my next project in mind. It'll take at least a month before I can start releasing though.

for now, look forward to Hosomura chapter 13. We're nearing the end there too! :(

BTW, if you line up the kiokuya post titles for the first 4 chapters, you'll get a verse. I wrote each line to sum up the chapter released in that post.

The dwelling of memories,

Is it life or is it Death?

Stories told - pasts unlocked

Yet the shadow remains untouched.

I was supposed to wrap it up with another verse for volume two but I lost interest.

KIOKUYA Chapter 08

Young Ryou & Maki
Kiokuya by Kyoya Origami and Nachiyo Murayama

Chapter 08: Alone

One more chapter to go. I'm trying to get this done asap. I've lost interest in this since volume 1 but I have to finish it! I must break the Manga Syndrome curse of unfinished titles!

The final chapter should be out next week. if not earlier.

ENJOY!

Hosomura-san with Cat's Snacks | Chapter 12

Hosomura-san with Cat's Snacks

by Sanada Takado

Chapter 12: Shabu-shabu for two cats

This series is so good. I don't want it to end but then again I don't want to get teary-eyed anymore.

2 more to go!

Side Comment:

When we started this I remember discussing how we would go about this series with Shoreijuu. When it came to SFXs, we weren't going to do it. it fact, chapter 4, which is the first chapter we scanlated of this series, didn't have translated SFXs. but then I thought about it some more and I decided that, in this series, SFXs are important especially when it comes to Snacks moving around as well as various SFXs in bubbles which would look bad if they were untranslated. So we decided to start translating those too. I guess, what I'm saying is: I REGRET MY DECISION! I HATE SFXs. That's all. Thank you very much.

KIOKUYA | Chapter 07

Maki Mochi
Kiokuya by Kyoya Origami and Nachiyo Murayama

Kiokuya | Chapter 07: Perspectives

As usual, read at your own risk. My Kiokuya releases are not proofed. This one specifically gave me headaches and I don't have time nor the energy to give it another look.

Reminder: I use "it" to refer to Kiokuya because we don't know who or what it is yet (yeah, right! ;) ) In French (my SL) they don't have a neutral pronoun so the text uses "he". In this chapter, a character said that Kiokuya might be a "she". But outside that discussion, I still use "it".
